Hugo von Hofmannsthal's JEDERMANN. DAS SPIEL VOM STERBEN DES REICHEN MANNES is based on the tradition of medieval mystery plays and is best known for the annual performances in Salzburg. The story is almost universal, but the interest is unbroken.
God sends death to get the rich man of life EVERYMAN. Meanwhile, he is busy giving his money to those who already own something, so that his prestige and wealth continue to grow. All others are rejected, including his mother, because it is to be celebrated. Surrounded by a lot of people, his girlfriend, the crowd, relatives and other party guests, his name suddenly sounds, wandering ominously through the historic alleys and suddenly he stands behind him: death.
After some negotiation, he gets an hour's delay and tries to find a escort: only one person, you agrees to accompany him on this last course. But no one wants to go with him. Not the girlfriend, not his good companion, not a friend and even his money, the mammon, denies him this service. In the face of death, the question arises as to what stands at the end of this wandering life. Which works does a person leave behind, what is it worth believing in, according to what values do we want to live in the knowledge that it is coming to an end?
Together with those responsible for the Elisabeth Church and cooperation partners of the city council, this production is to celebrate as a way to move love into the existential center, to look for what is really valuable in life.
