COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT: STORY TELLING
"Today’s fast-pacing fashion industry is often less inspired by the clothes themselves than by the great stories the designers tell us. As a famous fashion editor said “always remember the great characters you meet in life, they will inspire you later on and you never know when.” Our own life stories will always be, for fashion, the strongest and most powerful reference of them all.
Within the contemporary trend „Storytelling“ people rediscover a liking for old and new stories.
„Storytelling“ as a project joint-venture of costume and fashion has offered students an opportunity to illustrate the victorian fairytale of “THE NIGHTINGALE AND THE ROSE“ by Oscar Wilde by designing of a mini collection of four experimental show pieces, based on one sentence from the story.
In the second semester students have turned their work experience and learning from these show pieces into ready-to-wear collections for a commercial turkish fashion brand of their own choice."
